Peace and All Good.

Thank you to the Catholics all over the country who joined us for our national organizing meeting on yesterday.

Catholics Vote Common Good national board member Christopher Carroll of Philadelphia provided important demographic information about the Catholic electorate and our impact on the last two presidential elections as well as the potential for the 2024 race.

Chris explained that Catholics make up 21.4% of the U.S population (12.6% are white Catholics, 8.6% Hispanic Catholics), according to the Public Religion Research Institute. Another 13% of adult Americans are ex-Catholics, according to the Pew Research Center. Altogether, that is about a third of the country. Arizona 21%, Florida 21%, Michigan 18%, Nevada 25%, New Hampshire 26%, Ohio 18%, Pennsylvania 24% and Wisconsin 25%.

Many of the states with sizable Catholic populations are also important swing states in the 2024 election.

Catholics Vote Common Good national co-chair Patrick Carolan of Connecticut discussed the Catholic vote's impact on the 2016 and 2020 elections. In short, Joe Biden won the votes of a lot more Catholics in swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin and, hence, won those states and the election.

Our goal is to activate multi-issue Catholic voters and provide them—as well as candidates who are committed to the common good of lifting up the quality of life of all Americans—with the tools they need to be informed and to engage Catholic voters who are concerned about issues of social justice, immigration, climate change, and the scourge of White Christian Nationalism. We ask that you prayerfully consider joining our efforts.

May God's light guide your days, and His spirit bring you peace this Lenten season.

All our best,
Patrick Carolan &
Denise Murphy McGraw

Catholics Vote Common Good is a partner of Vote Common Good born out of the Catholics for Biden movement that seeks to create common ground at the intersection of faith and politics by focusing on what unites us, rather than what divides us. We work to support candidates who share that philosophy and who work toward raising up the quality of life of our nation's children, families, and the most vulnerable among us.
