Dear {{ FirstName | default: 'friends' }},

Welcome to our latest news for a week when American Catholics experienced truly split-screen moments as we celebrated the feasts of St Patrick and St Joseph during this Lenten season.

Catholics Vote Common Good Goes To The White House:

On Sunday, the leadership of Catholics Vote Common Good joined about 150 Catholic leaders from around the country for a unity brunch at The White House to celebrate St Patrick's Day. President Biden hosted the event and was joined by now former Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and Papal Nuncio to America Cardinal Christophe Pierre.

Catholics such as Fr James Martin editor-at-large of America, Author Fr Thomas Reese, SJ, Sr Simone Campbell founder of Nuns on the Bus, Washington Post columnist EJ Dionne, co-chair of 2020's Catholics for Biden and retired chairman of the Catholic University of America Politics Department John Kenneth White, members of the Kennedy family including Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Joseph Kennedy, III, Tim and Mark Shriver, and other activists, theologians, academics, nonprofit and business leaders were in attendance.

The positive energy and enthusiasm at The White House event was a true testament to the level of support President Biden enjoys from Catholic voters who are looking for strong, compassionate leadership of our country that is committed to the common good.

Meanwhile in Trump-Land...

By contrast to President Biden's unity brunch at the White House, former President Trump spent the weekend promising a "blood bath" if he were to lose the November election and said, “Any Catholic that votes for this numbskull [President Biden] is crazy. You are being persecuted."

Wooing the Catholic vote after hurling insults at the nation’s second Catholic president is one thing. Doing so, after promising another January 6-style insurrection is a completely different story. Donald Trump should take to heart, 1 Peter 3:9-10 where Jesus says "Do not be hateful and insult people..."

And At Mar-A-Lago...

Meanwhile, a group with the original name, "Catholics for Catholics" chose St Joseph's Day to host a $1,000-a-ticket black-tie event, "Catholic Prayer for Trump."

The dinner program at Trump's home Mar-a-Lago, which railed on organized labor unions as "communist," featured a speaker lineup of MAGA heavyweights, such as the convicted felon Roger Stone, conservative activist and self-described "dirty trickster," convicted felon retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who served briefly as Trump's national security adviser, and the actor who played Jesus in a movie 20 years ago.

In closing, we leave you with some of The Prayer of St Patrick Papal Nuncio to America Cardinal Christophe Pierre shared during his blessing at the White House:

Christ shield me today

Against poison, against burning,

Against drowning, against wounding,

So that reward may come to me in abundance.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,

Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,

Christ in the eye that sees me,

Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today

Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,

Through a belief in the Threeness,

Through a confession of the Oneness

Of the Creator of creation.
